Blak Ace, “Be committed, be consistent..”

Local hip-hop artist “Blak Ace”, is all about the fans and all about the hustle in Vancouver. Always puttin’ it down for 604!

Knowing how much Ace loves Vancouver, I asked him what he thought of the opportunities provided here for up-and-coming artists. “Vancouver is a city where it’s hard for a hip hop artist to strive but, if you are a rock and roll artist, Vancouver provides more opportunities. It’s definitely a harder market in Vancouver for hip hop artists.”-Blak Ace Undaunted by the challenges that present themselves in this city, Ace’s perseverance has helped him to accomplish some of his short term goals and he has begun to make a name for himself. |

1998 was when Ace started recording with his cousin, and formed the group “Da Congregation” or, “D.C.G.”. The group recorded a 4 track E.P., which was produced by Henri Brown, the great Jimmy Hendrix’s first cousin. That same year he booked his first major opening show with “Naughty by Nature”. It was at that point that he made his decision. “That was pretty much when I kinda figured like, whoa, this is something that I definitely love, and something that I wanna pursue until the end of time.” In Summer 2012, “Blak Ace” headed to Toronto where he performed several shows as part of his social media tour. Returning to Vancouver, Ace wasted no time getting back on-stage. September 2nd, he opened for E-40 and on December 18th, he opened up for Jadakiss. Both shows were at the Fortune Sound Club. 2012 also marked the release of his first solo album “HeavenzGates”, featuring talented singers Resa Candice and Amanda Maiden. (Amanda Maiden being the god daughter of Chaka Khan and daughter of bass player Rufus.) Not only performing whenever he can, but tirelessly promoting his new album during this time, shows that music is truly “Blak Ace’s” passion and he is ever great-full for all the local support he gets. For the short term, Ace is all about promotions. He has not only his latest album release and clothing line, but he also has to focus on booking openers for reputable artists while continuing to expand his network with the just right people. Long term, “Blak Ace” would like to work on releasing another solo album. He is also looking to book a tour date as well as begin producing high quality videos for his music. |

Ace understands that his music isn’t all considered commercial. Yet he has still managed to receive air-play on numerous radio stations including 100.5FM Co-Op Radio Vancouver and “The Beat” 94.5FM. Call in and request your favorite track off of “HeavenzGates”, “Blak Ace’s” new solo album. To the up-and-coming artist? “Be committed, be consistent, and work at it everyday. It’s the only way I have been able to find some success for myself. Just to continue to grind everyday and to try to keep your expectations realistic and your goals achievable.” |

Blak Ace – My Passion
Blak Ace is a rap artist, hip hop emcee and entrepreneur who is well known in the Vancouver Hip Hop music scene for making rap music and hip hop music and also for producing Vancouver’s Only Teen Night Club called “PHIZZO” from 2001 to 2006. He is currently working on a brand new EP produced by Juno award winning producer DJ KEMO – from the RASCALZ – and is focused on touring and continuing to follow his path in the music industry, sharing his life, experiences and music with the world.
